Context and Carthage Here We Come

For those of you following my family’s nomadic wanderings, tomorrow we fly from Spain to Tunisia.

I never studied Ancient History, so I was surprised to learn that (1) Spain was first colonised by the Carthaginians, who were ultimately wiped out by the Romans, and that (2) Carthage was based in modern day Tunis, Tunisia.

Which is where we are going to spend our northern Summer. Have you ever been? Any tips for eating well and staying cool?

As always, this is relevant to this week’s subject.

Harmony and I chose to live as a travel family, work with only our ideal clients, because we believe in our business mission of Freedom Through Business. This is what Freedom means to us. It was a plan we first identified in 2016 … trialled in 2019 … but weren’t able to execute until 2025. How many great ideas have distracted you in the past 9 years?

Entrepreneurs have a reputation for ‘bright shiny object syndrome’, aka SQUIRREL!

Only by being super clear about your CONTEXT can you stay focused on your ultimate goals. When you are clear at all 5 Layers of Context (see below), and have those documented so your team understand ‘Why You Do What You Do’, you can grab the opportunities which align … ignore those which are distractions … and achieve your highest context, Your Personal, Commercial, and Cultural Vision even if the world throws infertility and a pandemic at your plans.

Context in business is Why you Do What you Do. Context is the helicopter view. Context is working on your business not working in your business. Context vs Content makes your business run better.

When ‘stuff’ goes awry every day – ask yourself, “Did I set the right Context with my team?”

And if you feel your business and life aren’t moving in the right direction – ask yourself, “Am I clear about my Personal Context for all of this pressure?”

Freedom through Business may not mean North Africa for you … but if it doesn’t mean anything, then you’ll end up with a business that takes you nowhere.
