PORTFOLIO ENTREPRENEUR + INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS COACH

Since 2005, I have worked with more than 300 active growth businesses in Australia and the UK (where I have alternated my time), North America and Asia. My clients are private enterprises generating $1.5m-$17m in annual revenue, who average 30% revenue or profit growth working with me (depending on which is their focus).

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS ADVISOR + RECESSION-ERA EXPERT

The Business you had at the start of 2020 is not the business you will have at the end of the COVID-19 Recession.

How you respond now will determine whether you Dive, Survive, or Thrive between today and the end of 2021. My theme right now: Don't Waste a Good Recession.

I remember my first recession as a business coach, working in London and across Europe and North America during the global financial crisis. While today may seem unprecedented, experience has given us a roadmap to the other side and continued success.

This experience makes me one of the youngest advisors working in Australia to have actually helped small and medium-sized businesses (from $750,000 - $20 million) grow through a Recession. Based in Brisbane, Australia, I continue to work with and learn from companies around the world.

HOW COACHING WORKS

Pure business coaching is a waste of money.

I do like Mondays (Tell me Why?)

I genuinely love Monday mornings. And I’m aware this makes me a little strange. Here’s why I do, and how I created that fabulous feeling when I wake up at the start of each week. Great Mondays are Created not Discovered Yes, “created”. Like most people, my love of Mondays was not natural. I never…

KPI Brand Accelerator Key Learnings

by Jacob Aldridge I’ve been a fan of KPI (that’s Key Person of Influence, not the other one) for many years now. As I’ve written elsewhere, KPI Founder Daniel Priestly was one of the first people I met in London, and in addition to learning from his experience I also stole one of his jokes….

Coloured Socks

I wore orange socks to a sales meeting this morning. You probably know by now that I love colour, and I’m a fan of any unexpected additions to your world that can create positive responses, especially when they’re connected with your brand or business message. Several years ago, at a Shirlaws conference in the south…

Your Photo is Your Brand: Overlooked Marketing Opportunities (2 of 3)

On a side note, I was in Hong Kong last week with the CEO of Shirlaws in Asia. He handed over his business card in a meeting, and had exactly the positive reaction I wrote about in the first of this short series of marketing articles. I suspect we’ll be doing a lot more business…

The Big Picture shows a Colourful Future

This post originally appeared on Shirlaws Online. It was written in 2007, when I was much newer to the world of business coaching. I’m re-publishing it for posterity, and because I’m amazed at how much I’ve changed in those 7 years. I must have been about fourteen when I got sick of having my pens…

Compelling Value [Archive]

Originally published on the Shirlaws Business Coaching Blog, 2007-2010. My recent life experience (I’ve just relocated my coaching business from Australia to the UK or, as I’ve taken to calling it, I’ve made the ‘Brisbane to Brixton’ run) provided a quick lesson I thought I would share: the importance of creating compelling value in making…

How to Respond to a Recession at any Price Position

A common assumption is that when the economy turns for the worse, it’s the premium-priced businesses that are most likely to feel the brunt of changes. History has shown – that’s not always the case. Here is my guide for responding to the Coronavirus Recession – whether your business is Haute Couture, Bargain Basement, or…

SHAMELESS PRAISE

Some business people share "endorsements", "testimonials", or "what people are saying". Me? I'm shameless - I love being praised, and I love sharing the love.

If you want to know what awesome looks like, read on...

“The value that Jacob added to our business is twofold. He lives the bigger game bringing a strong strategic perspective together with the ability to build process and structure to support the implementation of the strategy. Secondly his energy – he is always happy, always sees the positive and always happy to get his sleeves rolled up and get stuck in. He is a real asset to any business that has a passion to grow and make a difference.”

Juliet Turnbull,
2to3days.com

“Jacob’s energy is boundless and his coaching capability immense. He is also a man of many talents. He was instrumental in devising and introducing our new newsletter across the business which has now touched several hundred of my clients and enabled me to connect with new friends. I value Jacob for the positive difference he has made for my business.”

Jim Henderson, Management Consultant,
Harrison James Partnership

“Jacob’s business insights and experiences are world-class. Great facilitator and invaluable as a coach.”

Jenny Vandyke, Principal Consultant,
Zumbara Consulting

“His motivation and dedication are second to none and his personal and communication skills are really superb. I would recommend Jacob to anyone who wants to have absolute confidence that things – and the right things – will get done; and have a good time doing it.
Our only complaints remain his choice of jokes and ties.”
