I’ve taken several meetings this week from alumni clients and friends chasing some personal advice about how to respond to everything.
Importantly, if the sun is shining for you right now, don’t overthink things, keep making hay.
And then start increasing your level of communication and relationship building.
Fear fills a vacuum. Talk to your team more often. Share what is happening with your various business indicators, even if (especially if) nothing is changing for you.
Downturns change Clients – even the same humans will have new priorities and different buying criteria. Talking with your clients puts you ahead of those changing trends: What are they experiencing right now? How do they feel about the world?
Lock in your Strategic Referral Partners. This week (see below) I’m talking about the 5 Steps to creating these channels to market – if you already have those relationships, more communication will give you foresight about how clients are changing … or whether your best lead sources are about to run dry.
The temptation when feeling anxious is to mask. Put on your best + bravest face. Don’t let the world, and especially your team, clients, and important referrers know that you’ve started to worry.
That’s a slippery slope to the Dive mindset of ignoring your emotions.
Being vulnerable – with those who have earned your trust – is where Thrive opportunities are created.
Maybe right now you’re not feeling anything, or anything more than curious and uncertain? Are your most important people feeling different?
Think of the 5 people whose state of mind you would most like to know … and then pick up the telephone and give them a call.
(Do not, and I cannot stress this enough, send them an email suggesting you schedule a call in the next two weeks. Just don’t. No.)
You – not Albo, DT, or the Ayatollah – will determine what happens to your business this year. Your relationships will be critical to that success.
